Rails for Legacy Hardware: Fairbanks Scales
The Challenge
One of the largest truck scale manufacturers in the country needed to update (and in some cases re-write) software for their integrated scale control computer. Backwards compatibility, hardware constraints, and ease-of-use for non-technical users were high on their requirements list.
Our Solution
While Ruby on Rails and IE6 are not normally mentioned in the same sentence, we developed a Rails application for a legacy hardware setup that featured a fixed-resolution touch-screen computer running outdated browser software.
Results
Within significant hardware and software compatibility constraints, we used the most modern tools available to increase the usability of this ubiquitous industry tool.
